I Like to Think of Jesus as a Mischievous Badger
“I like to think of Jesus as a mischievous badger”, is a line from the outtakes reel at the end of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. In the movie, Cal Naughton, Jr. and Ricky Bobby’s family are having a conversation about how they imagine Jesus Christ looks whenever they are praying to him. Cal Naughton, Jr., played by John C. Reilley, has some ridiculously funny and imaginative ideas about what Jesus looks like, and some of the funnier lines happened to end up in the outtakes section.
Overall, I think that the movie is only moderately funny, but occasionally there is a really funny scene that makes seeing the whole movie worthwhile. A person should probably wait until they are in the right mood for the type of humor that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilley create if they want to really appreciate the movie. Drinking can sometimes help if someone is having trouble getting into the Will Ferrell and John C. Reilley mood.
The dinner scene is probably the highlight of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and based on the number of funny outtakes, I get the feeling that they had too much funny material and ended up cutting out a lot of great lines like, “I like to think of Jesus as a mischievous badger”. Anyway, it probably would have been too repetitive and possibly too offensive to Christians if the characters kept saying ridiculous things about Jesus Christ.
