Interesting Facts About Mars

MarsAccording to Nasa.gov, scientists speculate that liquid water lies beneath the rocky surface of Mars. Up until the 1960’s, it was commonly believed that there were many channels and aqueducts covering the surface of Mars, which could have been used by Martian farmers to transport water to their Martian corn crops.

Since there is evidence of liquid water, Mars is the most likely planet in our solar system to contain extra terrestrial life.

According to Space.com, Martian rocks land on Earth approximately once a month due to the fact that large asteroids pelted the surface of Mars millions of years ago.

The water and ice on Mars could some day be transported to Earth, so that humans can grow the corn needed to make space tortillas.

One of the most interesting facts about Mars is that a Martian year lasts almost 2 Earth years.

Being Earth’s closest celestial neighbor, over 37 science fiction books have been written about Mars, ranging from ‘Robinson Crusoe on Mars’ to Philip K. Dick’s ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’, both of which have been made into movies.

According to Ray Bradbury’s book, “The Martian Chronicles”, written in 1950, people who visit the surface of Mars are sometimes possessed by ancient Martian spirits, and can slowly lose their human identities in the process.

Did you know that regular, everyday corn tortillas can be eaten in space? That’s probably how astronauts will survive on their first mission to Mars. Click Here to learn how you can get involved in the space food program.
