Tagalog Short Stories

short storiesTagalog short stories are short stories written in the Filipino dialect of “Tagalog”. In the Philippines, short stories have gradually been increasing in popularity over the years. The Palanca Awards, which was created to spur interest in Filipino literature, has been responsible for building much of the hype surrounding Tagalog writing. Numerous online resources exist for finding English and Filipino translations of these stories. By reading Filipino literature, a person can explore Filipino culture, and can discover new interests that they have never thought of exploring before.

Many Filipino authors aspire to receive recognition from the Palanca Awards. The Palanca Awards’ website lists the most popular short stories that have been submitted to the contest over the years — especially those submitted within the past 3 years. Several dialects of the Filipino language are represented on the site, and there are often English translations of each story.

Tons of Filipino authors can be found in the archives of Panitikan.com.ph where the literature is logically arranged by Author and Genre. This website is not only a source of Tagalog short stories, but it is also contains several other different types of written works that explore Filipino culture.

While you are exploring these sources of Filipino literature, you will undoubtedly find stories that needs to be translated into a language that you understand. For translating from Filipino to English, I recommend the Google Translator. Although it is not as good as having a professionally trained translator by your side, it can help you understand the main points that the stories are trying to express.
