What Happens When You Smoke Salvia Divinorum? Part 4

Part 4 of 4: Conclusions

This section is based on Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3, so it makes sense to read those sections first.

The previous sections discussed a couple of examples of what can happen when you smoke Salvia, but honestly it is almost impossible to predict what any single person’s experience is going to be like. Perhaps the best advice for a first-timer is to stay calm, and expect nothing, because the experience shouldn’t be corrupted by other people’s interpretations of a Salvia divinorum experience.

For me, Salvia divinorum experiences have had neither a lasting positive or negative effect on my mind or on my life, and I’ve had both mild and intense experiences. The mild experiences were generally short, disappointing, and left me with no new knowledge of myself or the world. The intense experiences were too mind blowing to be satisfying, and although they did help me uncover some subconscious knowledge about myself, the new knowledge wasn’t particularly useful. The visual hallucinations were wild and interesting, but the degree of discomfort that I had to endure was not really worth it. Some people have said that they are able to improve their lives using Salvia divinorum, and if that it true, then I think they should be able keep using it as long as they use it safely.

The bad press surrounding Salvia divinorum is often generated by people who use the herb irresponsibly. People who have used and understand Salvia should try to educate other people about the plant, so that it will be used responsibly in the future. If not, Salvia divinorum may become another herb in a long list of psychoactive plants that have been made illegal by people who don’t care to understand effects, or the potential of psychedelic substances.
